Marcél Baumhauer da Silva
I’m a photographic artist whose work revisits the still life as a way of reflecting on material culture. I work in colour, constructing each image in the studio—starting with a hand-painted backdrop and shaping the scene through controlled light that suggests natural illumination. The images are intended to feel calm and familiar, while quietly acknowledging their own construction.
My focus is on vessels—glass, ceramic, plastic and packaging—objects designed to hold and contain. By placing vintage and contemporary forms together, I explore the tension between permanence and disposability, and the shifting values we attach to material things.
Influenced by Dutch still life painting and informed by my background in interior design, my practice is defined by compositional restraint, spatial sensitivity, and an interest in how images inhabit space.
